Quick Update:

“Weather today: Rain, Sun, Wind, Snow ? .. Yup" - A West Yellowstone hotel billboard

After a warm send-off from Heather's parents we spent the past three days cycling 187 km from Deadwood Gultch to West Yellowstone Village.

Heading off on the start of our bike section

Day 1

48km from Deadwood Gulch to Lima Reservoir. Easy first day, one 30 minute snowstorm, saw eagles, falcons, and pronghorns.

Biking through the first of our snowstorms

Idyllic camp next to Lima Reservoir

Day 2

74 km from Lima Reservoir to Elk Lake.

Beautiful morning, efficient biking past grazing cows. Storm clouds in the mountains in all directions but somehow we managed to stay right in the middle. Sand dunes, sand dunes, sand dunes and more very slow going through sand dunes! Windy as we rolled into camp but cozy at night.

Threading our way between storms

The start of the endless sand dunes, we didn’t know what was coming…

Day 3

65 km from Elk Lake to West Yellowstone.

Good morning snow! Biked passed an area we hiked through last week. Saw pronghorns, elk, and a moose. Can't stop biking because my feet might fall off. We want to laugh, scream, and cry; so cold but instead we will sing and bike faster. Arrived at destination by lunch time.

Waking to ongoing heavy snowfall

Devouring some pizza whilst warming up after the long & cold descent from Targhee Pass.
